Welcome! You’re officially set up with Part 1 training, and ready to start using Momentum in your real day-to-day. The goal for your first week is to get oriented, build a strong foundation, and begin sending real donor outreach—with just enough structure to feel confident and organized.
Here’s what to focus on:
Day 1–2: Get Set Up & Oriented
Start with Your User & Org Bio
Go to Settings > User & Org Bio and make sure your voice and tone feel right. This helps the AI Writer reflect your communication style.
- Add your preferred greeting (e.g., “Hi” vs. “Dear”)
- Note how formal or casual you are
- Add a few org facts (mission, programs, recent wins) for context
This only takes 5–10 minutes and makes all future drafts more accurate and on-brand.
Explore the Inbox
This is your home base.
- Review any existing actions already queued up (if your team has pre-loaded anything)
- Click around to see how drafting, donor info, and logging works
- If your queue is empty, don’t worry—you’ll fill it in soon!
Tip: The Inbox shows actions due in the next 3 days, so scheduling something later this week ensures it appears when you’re ready to send.
Day 3–4: Organize Your Donors
Review Your Assigned Constituents
Head to the Table View to see everyone in your portfolio. From here you can:
- Sort by last contact date
- Spot lapsed or active donors
- Click into any record for full context
You’ll start seeing patterns—like who needs a follow-up, who you haven’t talked to in months, or who just gave recently.
Create Strategic Segments
Go to the Segments tab and create a few key groups that reflect how you think about your donors.
Start with:
- “Top Priorities Q3”
- “Lapsed LYBUNTs”
- “Recurring Donors”
- “First-Time Donors”
Segments let you filter outreach, track progress, and later power automations.
Build Useful Lists
Need to follow up after an event? Want to send a touchpoint to donors who gave to a specific fund? Use Lists.
Examples:
- “Gala Attendees 2024”
- “April Newsletter Clickers”
- “Donors Who Gave to the Playground Campaign”
Lists are flexible and perfect for one-off or campaign-specific outreach.
Day 5–7: Send Your First Outreach
Schedule a Few New Actions
Click New Action and walk through the form:
- WHO: Pick 3–5 donors from a segment or list
- WHEN: Pick a day this week to complete the action
- WHAT: Choose a short prompt (e.g., “Send thank-you note after April gift”)
- HOW: Select email (for direct send) or card/call (for draft + log)
Once you’ve scheduled it, it’ll show up in your Inbox at the right time for you to send or log.
Draft + Send Using the AI Writer
When an action appears in your Inbox:
- Click to open the draft
- Let the AI generate your message
- Review it like you would something written by a human assistant
- Tailor if needed, then send!
Remember: AI suggestions are just a starting point—you’re always in control.
Bonus: Log a Non-Email Touchpoint
Even if you call or send a handwritten card, log it in Momentum! This ensures everything syncs back to your CRM and helps Momentum make smarter recommendations later.
