AI Templates are your go-to tools for sending personalized outreach at scale. Instead of rewriting the same messages over and over—or copy-pasting into a hundred emails—just build a reusable template powered by AI.
These templates help you:
- Save time by automating personalization
- Stay consistent in voice and tone
- Customize content dynamically for each donor
- Reuse high-performing language again and again
Momentum’s AI Templates live in your Workspace, and once created, they can be applied across Lists, Actions, and even Cadences.
What’s an AI Template?
An AI Template is a smart, reusable message prompt. It works like this:
- You provide guidance – Tell the AI what kind of message to write, what it should include, and what kind of voice to use.
- Momentum personalizes the draft – The AI pulls in real-time donor data to tailor the message to each individual.
- You review and refine – Preview the drafts, make edits if needed, and send them out.
Unlike Mail Merge templates, which just insert fields like <first name>, AI Templates actually write the message for you, based on your instructions.
How to Create an AI Template
Step 1: Go to Your Workspace
- Navigate to the Workspace tab in Momentum.
- Click on Templates in the left-hand menu.
Step 2: Add a New Template
- Click ➕ New Template and select AI Prompt as the type.
- Give your template a clear name (e.g. “Year-End Appeal Invite” or “Welcome Note for New Donors”).
Step 3: Write the Prompt
In the prompt box, describe what you want the AI to generate. A good prompt includes:
- The goal of the message
- e.g., “Write a warm, personal thank-you note for a recent Giving Day gift.”
- Tone and voice
- e.g., “Keep it conversational and enthusiastic, but still professional.”
- Key content to include
- e.g., “Mention their gift amount, the Giving Day campaign theme, and an upcoming event.”
- Any text that must appear
- e.g., “Include this sentence exactly: ‘Your support fuels student success.’”
Tip: Write your prompt like you’re giving directions to a smart assistant. Be specific, but not overly rigid.
Preview and Test Your Prompt
Before using your template at scale:
- Click Preview
- Type a donor’s name (or use a test contact)
- See how the AI responds
If the result isn’t quite right, tweak the prompt and test again until it feels spot-on.
Reuse, Share, and Convert
- Once your template is polished, it can be applied to any List, Action, or Cadence.
- You can edit it anytime from your Workspace.
- Happy with the draft? You can Convert to Mail Merge to lock in the copy and reuse as a static template.
When to Use AI Templates vs. Mail Merge

Managing Templates
- All templates live in your Workspace under the Templates tab.
- You can filter by type (Mail Merge vs. AI Prompt), search by title, and edit or delete as needed.
- Use shared naming conventions (e.g. “Gala_Followup_AI”) to keep your team organized.
